a little about me
Hola! My name is Karen and I am a fierce advocate for reproductive justice. I love Sistersong’s definition of reproductive justice, which is, “the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.” Therefore, I seek to support people within their journey, honoring their bodily autonomy and rights, which is why it is important for me to support birthing people, those seeking to release their pregnancy, and parents wanting to create safe and nurturing environments.
I am a Spanish-speaking birth and postpartum doula who is passionate about making sure the birthing person is feeling empowered, liberated, and heard throughout their pregnancy, labor and birth, and postpartum. I am also an abortion companion and will provide you with unbiased, nonjudgemental support and unconditional love. I believe wholeheartedly that your body knows how and what to do, and that you know YOUR body the best, so I will support you in whatever YOU feel is best for you. I know you have a voice and I value that, so I will advocate WITH you.
Birth and the transition to parenthood, as well as the postpartum after birth or an abortion (spontaneous or medical) is a mental, physical, and spiritual shift, so I approach my work with clients in a holistic and trauma-informed way. To be a part of your journey is an honor and a privilege and I will treat it as such when you let me hear your story, enter your home, meet your family, and be a part of a transformational moment in your life.

"We first met with Karen and immediately knew she was the doula for us. However, we still met with a few others just to be sure but, we of course we came right back to Karen! Karen was never pushy and never made us feel like she was the only option, in fact she encouraged us to meet with other doulas and ask questions since this was such an intimate experience. Once we made things official she was nothing short of amazing. She was always available in a timely manner to respond to any and all questions. Since this was our first baby, we had TONS of questions and she never once made us feel dumb for asking them. She also never showed biases towards things. She gave us the answers and resources for us to make our own decisions while providing the support on the choices we made and all the while reminding us that there is no right or wrong way… just our way. We went through different scenarios to prepare and be informed of what could happen and how we would handle/deal with those situations if they came up. This included things like what the options were for pain mangement , what would happen if there was a need for a c section or even if the vibes were off once in the delivery room. It was great to be prepared and understand what that would look like since this isn’t something that was explained to us previously. Additionally, Karen went over questions to ask our doctor- like at what point would they recommend induction or who do they let in the room if there is need for an emergency c section. Karen did her due diligence to make sure that all the bases were covered but, not scare us into thinking these situations would happen. During the labor process Karen made sure to remind us of breathing techniques, and even though there was A LOT going on at some points she always remained calm and was there to help. After baby was born Karen did an amazing job of empowering me and us as new parents. She checked in on us and made sure we were okay both physically and mentally. There are not enough good words to describe our journey with Karen but, if I had to highlight my favorite it would be that Karen emphasized the power we already had. She reminded me that not only did I know my body but, that I knew what I had to do and that only I held that power. Regardless of what was going on around me, I knew, my husband knew and our baby knew what needed to be done for the birth that we wanted. It was amazing to have Karen as part of our birth team and I would highly recommend her to anyone!"

"First time parents? 100% recommend a Doula. I was 30 weeks pregnant when I started looking for a Bilingual Doula. We found Karen and we couldn’t have been any more blessed. I believe that one of the things that made my birth experience so lovely was my doula! She made me feel confident and prepared for birth and I could not have delivered my baby without Karen being by my side. She took very good care of me and was exactly the type of support I needed through my 16 hour labour. She provided calm support through breathing techniques, position ideas, massage, exercises, etc. She helped guide my husband and I through the hardest contractions I’ve ever felt. I was so tired and in pain but Karen was there with positive attitude making me feel empowered and reassuring me that what I was experiencing was normal, which allowed me to trust my body and let it do what it was designed to do. Karen continues to be a resource for me, not to mention a lifelong friend. I strongly recommend using Karen as your doula without hesitation. She is a true God send, we love her."
